Two People Paintings

This painting is part of a new series depicting two people.  Usually the two figures are engaged in some kind of conversation.  The topic of the  conversation is the  subject of the painting.

Is this particular work a landscape or a figurative painting ?   The previous beach paintings  have been figurative works.  I change the scale of the figures on this one to see how it looks.

The figure/background relationship is a large part of figure painting.  In this painting the background is more active than the figure.  I did this intentionally to contrast with the figure's pose.

This beach painting has a narrative feel.  My art career began with a 19 year background of editorial illustration.  So, I guess by habit, I try to express an idea.

Cityscape #13

This small cityscape is a depiction of South Wabash Avenue in late afternoon.  The El  tracks create these  dark shadows that are very interesting.  I then catch the figures as they walk out of them.

In this painting I grouped together two figures together.  The figure on the left is the main character.  Just like in a movie or book, the figures have designated roles.

In these small cityscape paintings I try to simplify.  I look at all the objects as shapes and try to group them into something simple.

I like to combine two different elements.  For example, in this painting, I combined nature (snow) with an industrial element (train tracks).
