  NYNY #24 is one in a series of Cityscape paintings depicting NYC.  This scene is early Sunday morning on 10th street close to midtown.  The painting is divided into two sections.  One side recedes giving you a sense of depth.  The other side is very flat and two dimensional.

  Coming and Going #66 is part of a series of works that concentrate on the figure walking in a busy metropolitan setting.  In most cases, the figures are crossing a street at a crosswalk.  This theme caught my attention when I noticed how the lites came out of the dark background of the buildings.  Creating this very dramatic effect.

  Reading #85 is part of a series.  All the paintings in the series focuses on the female figure in the act of reading.  I try to find different ways of doing this traditional theme.  This piece is a good example. I try to focus more on the abstract design which results in a flatter, more two dimensional feel.

NYNY #23

  NYNY #23 is part of a series of cityscapes of New York.  The location of this painting is around  midtown close to Grand Central Station.  It's early in the morning and the sun is coming up.  The sun is peeping through the cracks in the skyscrapers but leaving some still in total darkness.  The top of the painting shows the sun with tonal contrast while the bottom uses color contrast in the darkness.

Reading #84

  Reading #84 is part of the series to do with the female figure reading.  I approach these paintings with abstract ideas in mind.  A diagonal is created, starting with the bottom left of the figures foot, and runs to the top of the head where it stops.  The only break along the path is the book the figure is holding.

  NYNY #22 is part of a series focusing on the images of New York City.  This subway entrance is located around 10th and 41st.  The right side of the image is very flat with contrasting cool warm colors. The left side of the image is three-dimensional with figures walking up the steps.

Cutting Machine

  Cutting Machine is part of a series of paintings depicting jobs of hard labor.  This machine is a coal cutting machine used to shave off layers of coal in an underground mine.  My intention is to use this subject matter as an inspiration for a painting rather than a literal, historical documentation.
