Bar Back

Bar Back is part of a series to do with food and beverage.  In this series I focus more on the figures providing the service to the patrons.   As in this case, the painting becomes a portrait.

Cafe

Cafe is part of a series of larger works (24 x 30 inches) which I do in the summer.  These works are based on a successful smaller work executed some time ago.  This scene was a small diner in Chicago in the Lakeview neighborhood.  I edit any signage or details which would give too much information.  I like to have these images look very simple.  The empty glass gives a clue that someone else is at the table but not present.

Rain Delay

Rain Delay is part of a series to do with the urban landscape.  The rain is a theme much explored by Impressionists painters.  Trying to put a different spin on the romantic scene is the challenge.

Pit Crew

Pit Crew is part of a new series to do with sports.  Every year or so, I try to tackle a new subject.  I played football and basketball in college but was never interested in doing paintings that had to do with that subject until now.

Rooftops Melrose and Halsted

Rooftops Melrose and Halsted is a larger work based on a smaller work done over one year ago.  The smaller version of this scene was much looser in its appearance.  I reworked it with some minor changes because I really liked the painting.  I found this scene while doing some last minute Christmas shopping on the top floor of a parking garage in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.

Long Wait

Long Wait is part of a series depicting the female figure reading.  Subway passengers in NYC often endure long delays as they wait for their train.  During that time, one could almost read and digest a novel.

Long Red Scarf

Long Red Scarf is part of a series to do with the female figure reading.  When I first started this series, about 5 years ago, most of the scenes where outdoor.  They were scenes with the figure drenched in sunlight.  Unfortunately, the weather has been so bad in the summer months, I've had to search indoor for these scenes.
