Waitress in Yellow

Waitress in Yellow is part of a series to do with dining or scenes at a restaurant.  Genre paintings work best when they are done small in size.  They're small moments in time captured on small canvases.

Maxwell Street

Maxwell Street is part of a series focusing on urban landscapes.  In Chicago, Maxwell Street was known to be a place where you could buy anything from a pair of socks to a Polish hot dog.  The scene no longer exists and looks totally different now.

Slow Period Coffee Shop

Slow Period Coffee Shop is part of a series that covers the scenes found in diners, bars, and restaurants.  In the winter, when it gets dark around 4 or 5 o'clock, the inside of coffee shops attracts your attention.  Also, the crowds are very sparse leaving workers with much time on their hands.

Pedestrians in Snow

Pedestrians in Snow depicts pedestrians in their struggle to commute back and forth to work.  The commuter in unfavorable weather conditions always fascinated me.  I guess from growing up in a rural area where everyone drove to work.

The Sunny Side

The Sunny Side is part of a series of urban landscape works.  I haven't done urban works in quite a while and do miss it.  In these landscapes the more banal, the better.  I like to think these paintings  are about nothing at all.   I avoid historic landmarks as a rule.

Deck

Deck is part of a series to do with the dining experience.  The topic of conversation is the main subject of this painting.  But it's non-visible to the viewer.  A scenario which many of Hopper's paintings where built upon.

Crosswalk Manhattan

Crosswalk Manhattan is part of a series to do with urban landscapes.  I depict New York City in many of these works because of the time I spent there doing Art Fairs.  If you look closely, the sky is slightly darker than it should be.  I purposely do this to add a surreal effect.

Coffee Maker

Coffee Maker is part of a series to do with the dining experience.  This painting reminds me of my mother and aunt who worked in diners and coffee shops.  The time period is set around early 1970's or late 60's.

Afternoon Manhattan

Afternoon Manhattan is part of a series focusing on cityscapes.  In the afternoon as the sun sets, the light cuts through the busy streets.  In this case, it parts the cars and pedestrians like the Red Sea.

Waitres Setting the Table

Waitress Setting the Table is part of a series to do with the dining experience.  I usually focus on the servers or cooks in these works.  I haven't posted in about a year.  Thought I should get back to it.  Wanted to give a shout out to the Reese family in Columbus, Ohio for being a great host.  We really enjoyed our stay over the holidays.  Learned a new trick, clean your oven when you want the guest to leave.
