Shade

Shade is part of a series depicting the female figure reading.  The open road in the background gives you the feeling that someone else is involved in the scene.  But that someone else isn't visible at all.  Hopefully, it adds some mystery the painting.

Scramble

Scramble is part of a series that has to do with sports and athletic events.  Football, or American Football, offers scenarios of human struggle more readily than other sports.  The uniforms and helmets help downplay the factual information of the person.

Old Rocking Chair

Old Rocking Chair is part of a series to do with the female figure reading.  I found this old photograph from around the early 1900's.  I add my own color and try to use it in a non-descript type of way.

Daytime

Daytime is part of a series to do with sports or athletic events.  These sport type works have to do with mood rather than specific players or teams.  In this painting, the atmosphere of a daytime baseball game is the main focus.

Coffee Shop

Coffee Shop is part of a series to do with food and drink.  I eliminate many details in my paintings so as to keep it very simple.  As in this case, I want the viewer to add their own details and plot lines.  The concept of not revealing too much factual information is a Hopper characteristic.

Section of Tables

Section of Tables is part of a series to do with food and beverage.  In most of these works, I focus on the servers, bartenders, and cooks. Earlier in my career, I supplemented my income by serving food in various restaurants. I guess I can identify with these characters.

Coastline

Coastline belongs to a series that depicts the female figure reading.  In this painting, the figure and backdrop mesh together and become one.  I've studied many of Richard Diebenkorn's figurative work. If you look closely, you can see a resemblance.
