Relaxing on Beach

Relaxing on Beach is part of a series depicting the human figure in various poses and situations on the beach.  These figures are reclining on Lake Michigan here in Chicago.  I use various photo references and try to put together a scene that would have a narrative feel.

Sun Setting Lower Manhattan NYC

Sun Setting Lower Manhattan NYC is part of an ongoing series of urban landscapes. The sun is going down near Broadway and Park just a few blocks from the World Trade Center.  My focus is to simplify these urban scenes as much as I can and try to leave something to imagination.

Summer Rain in Chicago

Summer Rain in Chicago is one in a series of urban landscape paintings. This is a view down Jackson Street right before a heavy rain was starting to fall.  Atmospheric effects in urban landscape paintings give them tremendous appeal.  Soon, I would like to render some winter, snow scenes.

Sidewalk in New York City

Sidewalk in New York City is part of a series of urban landscape paintings.  This particular scene is near 40th and 8th in NYC.   Trying to simplify New York City images is more challenging than any other place.  The white buildings in the background blend with the crowd.  In contrast, the sidewalk vendors give a feeling of depth.

Summer in the City

Summer in the City is part of a series focusing on the figure combined with the cityscape.  Some paintings are cityscapes and some are figurative.  This series combines both.  The figures move around in a bustling urban scene.  This intersection happens to be in downtown Chicago during the summer.

Hazy Summer Day

Hazy Summer Day  is part of a series illustrating multiple figures in motion.  These figures are crossing the street in Chicago on a hazy, summer afternoon.  I set a timer when I paint in order to keep from overdoing the details.  It forces me to paint quickly.
