Five Figures and Stroller

Five Figures and  Stroller is part of the series that depicts the figure in motion.  I choose an urban setting, in this case lower Manhattan, to coincide with the figure.  My approach is to show a chaotic background with the static figures.

Park Bench

Park Bench is part of a series that focuses on the female figure reading.  This setting is a small park in Chicago where many people come to read, relax, and have lunch. Although this subject matter could seem repetitive, I'm always surprised at the different positions I find people reading a book.

Rainy Cityscapes with Yellow and Red

Rainy Cityscape with Yellow and Red is part of a series of works that depict the urban landscape.  In this case, the rain is blurring all details of downtown Chicago.  Rainy cityscapes have long been a favorite for impressionist type painters.  But how to do it differently is the puzzle.

Red Building Blue Awning

Red Building with Blue Awning is part of a series of works focusing on cityscapes.  These figures are crossing Broadway in NYC in early spring of last year.  The dark, density of the crowd contrasts with light, undefined sky and buildings.

Mallett

Mallett is part of series of paintings that depict some form of hard labor.  I started this series around 10 years ago.  I used to do these type of images very large, around 36 x 48 inches.  In the near future, I will assemble these small studies into a larger image.

Blue Shadow on Book

Blue Shadow on Book is part of a series that focuses on the female figure reading.    I spotted this figure reading in a grassy, park type area around Millennium Park in Chicago.   I've been influenced by Elmer Bischoff's work, an artist that I started looking at about a year ago.  Like his work, this image has a figure/background blurred relationship and a dream-like state.
