Two Figures on Wabash

Two Figures on Wabash is part of a series to do with Wabash Avenue here in Chicago.  The street offers much dramatic contrast because of the elevated train above.  I'm always looking to push these works and simplify the image as much as I can.

Couple Crossing Broadway

Couple Crossing Broadway is part of a series that focuses on the figure in an urban setting.  In most cases, the figures are crossing the street.  The figure in motion contrasts with the static buildings.  In this series I try to explore this relationship further and further. These figures are crossing Broadway on a chilly, but sunny, spring day in NYC.

Downpour in July

Downpour in July is part of a series of works focusing on the urban landscape.  This scene was from a major downpour that happened last July here in Chicago.  Viewers can relate to rainy cityscapes because the climate can be conveyed very easily. For me, rain, snow, and bright sunshine, work best for cityscapes.

Trio on Beach

Trio on the Beach is one in a series of paintings depicting beach scenes.  This image was made up from various photos taken on Lake Michigan in Chicago.  Trio refers to the different groupings of figures and what they represent.  The mother/daughter on far left, the single person in the middle, and the child/parents/grandparents/dog on the far right.

Red Purse on Wabash Avenue

Red Purse on Wabash Avenue is part of a series of paintings that focus on Wabash Avenue in Chicago.  The overhead elevated train gives the street a unique look.  I started doing these paintings of Wabash Avenue few years ago.  Much to my surprise people from all over,  not just local Chicagoans, where interested in and did purchase these works.

Pickaxe

Pickaxe is part of a series of paintings depicting any type of hard labor.  Coal Mining fits into that category very easily.  The pickaxe was one of earliest tools used by miners.  Rather than trying to catch the historical accuracy, I try to convey the emotion of working these grueling jobs.

Orange Green Building on Eighth

Yellow Green Building on Eighth is one of the cityscape, or streetscapes, in a series.  The location of this scene is near Eighth and Fortieth in NYC.  I'm continually in the process of simplifying these busy cityscape works. As in this one, more time was spent going back to erase some of the detail, than anything else.
