  Hailing Taxi is part of a series of urban landscape paintings.  I try to develop an approach to these paintings.  My hope is they move in some direction away from where I was before.  In this case, I use less detail than in previous works from a year ago.

Other Side of the Tracks

  Other Side of the Tracks is part of a series of urban landscapes.  This is one of the rare works where there are no figures in the scene.  After 15 years of illustrating mostly the figure,  It's refreshing to tell a story without any figures.

  On the Beach is part of a series of retro paintings.  Occasionally, I'll use old photographs as reference material to produce paintings.  I'm drawn to the images form the 1940's and 50's.

  Red Rain Coat is part of a series of urban landscape works.  The weather changes every 15 minutes or so here in Chicago.   It creates opportunities for different climate paintings.  You have to be ready for anything and roll with it.

The Loop

  The Loop is part of a series of urban city scenes.  When it's winter time I tend to do works that involve snow.  I usually combine it with buildings or trains.  The title refers to the downtown area of Chicago where the train runs in a one-way circular pattern.

Brown Line

  Brown Line is part of a series of modern urban landscape paintings.  The contrast of a winter snow and the steel of the train tracks has interested me for a long time.  Many of Hopper's earlier works depicted the man versus nature theme also.

Two Months

  Two Months is part of a series to do with urban landscapes.  The title comes from the two months of summer we have in Chicago, July and August.  I push more and more to eliminate the details in these street scenes.  The lower portion crowd scene is a good example of this.
