Oxford Street

  Oxford Street is part of a the series to do with the female figure reading.  After being an illustrator for about 20 years, I was taught to make paintings look as three-dimensional as possible.  Now as a painter, I'm trying to break that train of thought and make the images look flatter and two-dimensional.

  Capacity is part of a series capturing the female figure reading.  The detailed figure is reading the newspaper in the NYC subway.  The figure on the right plays a supporting role to the main character.  Similar to a movie, the roles of the characters have to be assigned.

  Tilted on Red Pillar is part of a series capturing the female figure reading.  This figure is leaning against a pillar in the NYC subway waiting for her train.  I break my paintings down into geometrical diagrams using verticals and horizontals.

  Waitress with Serving Tray is part of a new series to do with dining experience.  In this series the focus of the painting can be either the workers or the customers.  The waitress figure makes a vertical while her cast shadow reaches back into perspective.

  End of the Bar is part of a new series to do with the experience of eating or drinking.  The diagonal of the bar moves your eye quickly to the figure.  In contrast, the area around the figure is very two dimensional and flat.

  Reaching for Lunch is another in a new series to do with the act of eating.  This figure is reaching for her lunch while sitting on a concrete wall on Michigan Avenue in Chicago.  The arms and legs form diagonals which streak to the hands reaching into the bag.

  Lunch Break in Shade is part of a new series to do with eating and dining.  In this case the figure is enjoying a quiet lunch outdoors at Millennium Park in Chicago.  This figure blends with the background rather than protruding. It's a concept artist Isabell Bishop used in her work.
