Reading #86 is part of a series illustrating the female figure reading in various poses and situations. I find these subjects randomly while walking through Milenium park in the summer. I've never hired models or had anyone pose for these images. It gives it a more natural look.

Coming and Going #67
Coming and Going #67 is part of a series focusing on the human figure. Most of these paintings consist of multiple figures walking on a city street. I focus on the negative space between the figures instead of the details of the figures themselves. This street scene is downtown Chicago on a late summer afternoon.

NYNY#25
NYNY #25 is part of a series of works focusing on the cityscapes of New York City. These buildings were located near 12th and 41st. I spotted this scene early on a Sunday morning last spring. By leaving out most of the details, I was able to keep the focus on the cast shadow that runs down the side of the building.

Tin Mill
Tin Mill is part of a series of paintings that focus on the human figure engaging in hard, manual labor. This scene is a laborer working in a tin mill dating around the 1920's. These historic images remind us of a time when we used to make things here in the US. The design of this painting puts the figure in a "bow and arrow" shape. A "flex" that gives the feeling that something is about to happen.

Unidentified Miner #3
Unidentified Miner #3 is part of a series. This series consists of portraits of people who worked in coal mines or hard labor jobs. These portraits are done from archived photos that I've found. The people have no identification as to their name or where they lived and worked.

Wabash #8
Wabash #8 is part of a series of paintings named after Wabash Avenue here in Chicago. The street has a unique look with the train tracks above and the sunlit buildings in the distant background. The shadow on the street creates a diagonal which reaches back creating depth. The yellow- orange building above the bus reminds the viewer that it's still paint on a surface.
